Introduction
We have spent time gathering the opinions and thoughts from local schools and organizations to help us better meet the needs of their district and students. We have and will add programming based on these conversations and are truly interested in developing partnerships with all districts and families.
We are committed to creating a well-rounded faculty and welcome input to help us reach our goal of creating a truly diverse community. Our Advisory Board reflects our efforts in this area, and we will recruit talented professionals from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Founder
Mike Nekritz
Mike has thoroughly enjoyed his career in education beginning as a social studies instructor and concluding as superintendent. He has served as a high school principal, dean of students, department chair, and coach. Mike has worked in Cook, Lake, and DuPage counties and has extensive experience with at-risk and special education students. Mike earned three degrees at Northwestern University and is proud of his unique perspectives on education due in part to his MBA education, his time in the private sector, and his life experiences. Mike’s passion for Felicity School stems from the belief that ALL students deserve the best possible education and that education should cultivate the whole child. Mike’s family understands the complexities involved with raising and educating special educations students. Diane Nekritz, Mike’s wife, is a speech pathologist and special education teacher in Highland Park. Mike’s great Aunt, Ruth Wilkomer, was one of the founders of Lamb’s Farm with her son Danny being the first pet store manager, while cousin Ellen lived her life in special care due to her disability. Ed O'Neill
Despite recently retiring from the public education sector in 2012, Ed O'Neill as the Felicity School’s Director continues to dedicate his career to special education. A passionate advocate for experiential learning, some of Ed's biggest career achievements involved witnessing and contributing to the social and emotional growth of his students through adventure education experiences with the Upward Bound Program.
During his extensive career in the public education sector, Ed was a special education teacher in both alternative and comprehensive high school settings, including: Student Therapeutic Education Program, Nipper Career Education Center and Rolling Meadows High School. Ed also served in administration as the Special Education Coordinator at Buffalo Grove High School and Wheeling High School and as the Director at the Nipper Career Education Center and at the Forestview Alternative School. Ed rounded out his public education sector career in central office administration positions within High School District 214 and the Round Lake Area School District 116.
In addition to his work during the school day, Ed committed many hours to coaching high school football and basketball over 25 years. His dedication to teens extended to his summer position as a park district pool manager, which he held for 31 summers.
Married for 34 years to his wife, Nancy (who works for Prospect High School), Ed enjoys spending quality time with his children and grandchildren: Kristin (Todd) Boza (children Henry and Grace), Jennifer (Seth) Horvath (expecting their first child in May, 2013), and Bryan (Monica) O'Neill. Social Worker
After a year at Felicty as an intern, Andi joins the Felicity School team’s clinical staff as an art therapist and counselor. Andi focuses on assisting students recognize their strengths and continue in their development of self-awareness through using creativity. Andi believes in the importance of building trusting relationships and that art and connection have the power to transform lives. Andi received her Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and loves spending time with her dogs, hiking, and painting.
Yechiel Silber
Social Worker
Yechiel Silber joins Felicity School’s clinical team. Yechiel has worked as both a teacher and a clinician to help youth with academic, social and emotional challenges. Yechiel looks to help young adults find their inner potential and build on that potential to thrive as happy and productive individuals. He combines the use of discovering one’s values together with building a positive behavioral repertoire in order to help students reach their goals. Yechiel earned his Master of Science in Education at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He earned his Master of Social Work at Loyola University in Chicago. Yechiel loves spending his time with his wife and three children. He enjoys listening to music, zen shiatsu and all sports.
Cheryl Wright

Cheryl is a Felicity lead teacher and has a proven track record of success with special needs students throughout her extensive career. Cheryl is from the area, matriculated from Northern Illinois University, and brings a wide array of expertise to the Felicity team. In addition to her teaching career, Ms. Wright has an entrepreneurial spirit which she displayed as a part of developing successful retail businesses including a family restaurant. Cheryl is committed to her wonderful husband and son. In her free time, Ms. Wright enjoys traveling and can be seen participating in local Zumba classes.
Sol Luskin
Teacher
Sol is a life-long resident of Skokie and graduate of Niles North High School. After college, Sol began his career in the financial industry, but soon learned his passion was for helping people develop and grow into successful adults. The obvious choice- become a special education teacher. The transition has been smooth and he joins Felicity as a well-seasoned expert teacher. Not surprisingly, Sol is a family man with his third child on the way. Still with a competive spirit, Sol has replaced his wrestling career with hockey. Never to old to learn new things.
Kevin Watson
Teacher
Kevin's passion for the arts provides wonderful perspectives for students in his class. Formally trained in film studies as well as teaching in college, Mr. Watson brings the flare of the dramatic to the Felicity staff. Mr. Watson identifies and empathizes with his students creating a very strong bonds that lead to student growth. An adventurous soul, Mr. Watson loves exploring restaurants, competing in sports, and experiencing everything life has to offer.

A Highland Park native, United States Marine Corps veteran, experienced coach, and college athlete, Andy brings an extensive wealth of experience to Felicity. Andy was recently married and is currently training to be a special education teacher based on his passion for helping others. Armed with an expertise in mathematics, Andy is a great resource for students. When not working with students, Andy can be found brushing up on his trivia (movies is an area of particular expertise), working on website design, and coaching local basketball teams.

Mr. Kostas really enjoys working with kids and watching them grow and earn. He is from Highland Park where he was a 4 year lacrosse player, as well as 2 years of Basketball, Hockey, and football. Danny is new to the education industry, but is working on obtaining a degree in teaching. On his free time, Mr. Kostas like to workout, ride his motorcycle, go boating, and coach boys travel basketball. He also bring his patience and keen sense of humor.

Scott is a veteran counselor with has extensive experience working with young people. With an expertise in substance abuse, Scott has been helping students make more positive choices. He has worked in multiple settings including residential facilities and thorough understands the complexities facing students.
Catrina Hayes
Reading Specialist
Catrina specializes in literacy and has amazing skills working with students to develop their reading skills. When not working with Felicity students, Catrina spends time training teachers throughout the Chicago area on best practices for teaching reading.

Yoga Instructor
Jennifer adds special touches to the physical education program at Felicity providing yoga instruction. Jennifer is a successful personal and group trainer when not at Felicity.

Mark McDonald, Ed.D
Dr. Mark McDonald is Superintendent of Schools in Community High School District 99 in Downers Grove, Illinois, a position he has held since 2008. Prior to his appointment in District 99, Dr. McDonald was a secondary teacher and coach, an assistant principal, principal of West Aurora and Downers Grove South High Schools, and Deputy Superintendent of the West Aurora District 129. He is in his 34th year in education. Dr. McDonald is a native of Elgin, Illinois and a graduate of Elgin High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois where he was also an Illini football player and wrestling letterman. He earned his Master’s degree at Northern Illinois before returning to Champaign for a doctorate in Administration, Continuing, and Higher Education. Dr. McDonald currently resides in Downers Grove and is the father of two grown sons: Andy (Stephanie) of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Tony (Christina) of Madison, Wisconsin.
Kenneth Kozin, Ed.D
Kenneth Kozin has over 40-years in education. He earned his undergraduate and Master's degrees in special education from Northeastern Illinois University, Masters in Administration from Concordia University, Guidance and Counseling from Northern Illinois University and Educational and Leadership from University of Illinois-Chicago. Prior to retirement, Mr. Kozin was a special education teacher, vocational adjustment counselor and special education consultant with Northwest Suburban Special Education organization, principal of an alternative school and associate superintendent of student services with Township High School District 214. Since retirement, he has been a Technical Assistant Coordinator and Vocational/Career Supervisor for NSSEO, a principal for a nonpublic school transition program and a special services coordinator for an elementary district.
Gwynne Kell, Ph.D
Dr. Kell has been the superintendent in Winfield School District 34 in DuPage County since July 2009. Prior to becoming a superintendent, she served as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services in Round Lake School District 116, Director of Special Services in East Maine School District 63, Coordinator of Special Services in Community Consolidated School District 59 and the Principal of New Horizon Center. She was a special education teacher for nineteen years before beginning her career as a school district administrator. During this time, for ten years she was also an adjunct faculty member at UIC in the Education Department. Gwynne received her Ph.D. from the University of IL at Chicago, her Ed.S. in Education Leadership from Northern IL University, Master's degree from Chicago State University and Bachelor's degree from NIU. Gwynne Kell lives with her husband and two very large dogs; Maggie, a Saint Bernard rescue and Riley, an Irish Wolfhound. Her two grown step-kids also live nearby.
David P. Pasulka, Ph.D
David Pasulka is a renowned Illinois Family Law Attorney. For nearly 30 years, he has worked with families going through the divorce process. For the same period, he has been a member of the Child Representative Screening Committee that determines if an applicant is qualified, in Cook County, to represent children whose parents are divorcing or otherwise litigating in Court. For the past 15 years, David has been the chair of this committee. David has represented hundreds of children who are caught in their parents’ conflicts. Many of these children have issues such as bipolar, LD, ADD & ADHD as well as substance abuse issues. David has participated in dozens of IEP hearings on behalf of the children he represents. He has been married to Barbara for over 25 years. They have 2 girls (23 & 21) and 2 boys (19 & 15). David was born and raised in the inner city of Chicago. He received his BA from the University of Chicago and his J.D. from the University of San Diego. David has been a leader in many Bar Association groups, has written several continuing education chapters and many articles and has given dozens of speeches on topics of Family Law and representing children.
David Carillo: MSW, CADC, DCSW, LCSW
David is a psychotherapist, college professor and an educational consultant. Prior to his work as a college professor and school consultant, he served as a school social worker in grades K-12 for 27 years. A native of Mexico City and Blue Island, Illinois, he earned a bachelor’s degree at Southern Illinois University and a Master’s degree in clinical social work from Clark-Atlanta University located in Atlanta, Georgia. David lives in Palatine with his family. His most recent passions are in the areas of training (in Life Space Crisis Intervention) and in consulting with schools. His only regret is not having known what he knows today in terms of how to best work with children when he was starting in this field.
Elaine Nekritz, Esq.
State Representative Nekritz has served in the Illinois House of Representatives from Illinois’ 57th District since 2003, and continues to represent this district. She became an attorney after earning her law degree from University of Michigan. Her experience includes working as a real estate attorney, later becoming partner, with the law firm of Altheimer and Gray. As a community activist, she was the chairperson of the Village of Northbrook's Community Relations Commission from 1997 to 2002. Elaine is a member of the National Council of Jewish Women and serves as the Democratic Committeeman of Northfield Township. She resides in Northbrook with her husband, Barry.
Scott Gielow, MA, CADC
Scott began his career as a substance abuse counselor at Lutheran General Hospital. After moving to the LGH Mundelein facility, he had opportunities to design programming for early intervention and specialty populations. Later, while working for the Lake County Health Department, he became a Supervisor. This role led Scott to opportunities to create programming for at-risk children and their mothers. For the last 19 years Scott has held a position at Gateway Youth Care, counseling at-risk youth. For the past fifteen years, Scott has also enjoyed mentoring mentally ill children and collaborating with their families in the process.
Diona Wilson, M.Ed., B.A.
Diona Wilson is an Evanston native and Northwestern graduate. She started her career at Oakton Elementary School in Evanston while finishing her Master's in Special Education at Northeastern Illinois University. Mrs. Wilson taught special education at Nipper Career Education Center, a public therapeutic day school and then moved to Wheeling High School to teach cross categorical math and assume the position of girls' athletic director. After completing her administrative certificate, Mrs. Wilson obtained her first administrative position. Throughout her administrative career she has been a Coordinator, Assistant Principal, Director of Special Education, and an Assistant Superintendent. Diona is currently completing her Doctorate of Education, writing her dissertation on programs in place in juvenile detention facilities to reduce recidivism for African-American males. In her spare time, Mrs. Wilson enjoys traveling, photography, working out, and spending time with her husband. She is very excited about Felicity School and the opportunities the school, staff, and facilities will provide for students.

Core Values
Felicity School is designed to serve students who are eligible for special education services in the categories of Emotional Disability (ED), Learning Disability (LD), and Other Health Impaired (OHI).
Felicity School is a non-traditional, school environment with open and flexible spaces that ameliorates some of the negative feelings that students might associate with a more traditional school setting. Our student to staff ratio is a maximum of 10 students working with 2 staff members (one certified teacher and one paraprofessional). Related Services staff are available as directed by each student’s Individual Education Plan.
